First and foremost, we would like to congratulate Kelly of New Jersey for winning our HouseHunt Pin It to Win It Home Improvement Before and After Contest. Kelly has a blog called This Old Colonial Home where she documents renovating and decorating the 1937 colonial house she purchased in June of last year.
In the first year of living at her new home (she just had her home purchase anniversary on June 8th) Kelly and her husband have ripped up “the lovely 1980s pinkish-red carpets hiding 75 year old hardwoods underneath,” finished the floors, installed a stair runner, replaced switch plates and outlet covers, installed a smart thermostat, painted multiple rooms, replaced light fixtures, built a coffee table, and more!
Kelly won the contest for her amazing before and after home improvement photos of her living room. Here’s what the room looked like before, fuchsia carpeting and all.
And here’s her living room after:
Kelly used Valspar Desert Fortress paint for the walls, and did an excellent job on the mantel, gallery wall, mirror, and coffee table. Take a look at her projects below and click on the photos to be taken to her blog for DIY tips.
Kelly isn’t done yet! She plans to redo the upstairs bathroom, replace the concrete patio with a wood deck, and knock down a wall to make her galley kitchen more functional. As with all her projects, she plans to be thrifty by going to estate sales, flea markets, finding goodies on Craigslist and doing some more DIY projects.
