Aliso Viejo is a master-planned community located west of Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel designed for middle and upper-middle class residents. Residential construction started in 1982 . Aliso Viejo is so new that it doesn't appear on some maps. It is an un-incorporated community governed by the county. A community association serves as an informal city council that advises on planning matters and manages parks and greenbelts in the community.
Aliso Viejo is served by three school districts: Capistrano, Saddleback and Laguna Beach--three of the higher-scoring districts in the county. An elementary school opened in 1992, a middle school and a high school in 1993, and another elementary school in 1994. The high school uses the latest fiber-optic technology. Foxborough Elementary runs a year-round program. There are several private schools in town.
The present population is over 30,000; by 2005, there should be over 48,000 residents liv ing in about
20,000 homes, condos and apartments. New construction continues and homes are available in a variety of contemporary styles. including condos, townhomes, and single family residences priced from the low $90,000's to more than $300,000.
About 800 acres have been dedicated for local parks, schools, recreation and community facilities.
Approximately 900 acres have been set aside for business in "Pacific Park." Little League started in 1991; a soccer league in 1993. Private firms run gymnastic, ballet and music programs. movies. ice skating and hockey. A new library and golf course is scheduled to open this year. The Pacific Ocean is just a few minutes drive away.
